LEEP is a treatment for abnormal cells on the cervix. It may be performed after abnormal cells are found during a PAP smear. The procedure involves removal of abnormal tissue by cutting it away to help prevent development of cervical cancer.
One question you may have is how is this procedure completed? Wire loops attached to an electrosurgical generator cut away the affected tissue, causing the cells to heat and burst. The removed tissue is then biopsied. Typically, the procedure is completed in about 20-30 minutes.
